Soothing Techniques

THIS IS A LIST OF SOOTHING TECHNIQUES THAT I GOT FROM MY THERAPIST

  1. take a bubble bath
  2. eat a bowl of pudding
  3. sip a nice glass of warm milk
  4. eat a popsical
  5. drink a cup of tea
  6. eat chocolate
  7. don’t watch the news
  8. pay music you enjoy
  9. call a friend
  10. hang a wind chime
  11. watch cartoons
  12. take a nap
  13. read a book
  14. exercise
  15. climb into comfy sleepware for the day
  16. garden or get a potted plant and take care of it
  17. play with your pet (or others pets)
  18. watch a funny show on the TV and laugh
  19. daydream. close your eyes and let your mind wander.
  20. lie on your back and watch the clouds
  21. act like a kid. splash in puddles, build a sand castle.
  22. do not do anything today on your “to-do-list”. do it tomorrow.
  23. keep a journal. purge your feelings and worries on paper.
  24. light a candle. it’s difficult to be stressed out in candlelight.
  25. snuggle with your honey or hug a friend.
  26. meditate. go to the beach but in your mind.
  27. take several deep breaths. it relaxes the muscles and calms the mind.
  28. sing a song. lift your spirits quickly by humming.
  29. dance. after a stressful day, put on a CD and cut a rug.
  30. just scream. scream into a pillow or in the car.
  31. take a walk. it can give you an over all sense of well-being.
  32. cut down on caffeine. too much can cause anxiety.
  33. stop negative thoughts. shred paper, bend straws, break toothpicks.
  34. keep your mind busy. do arts and crafts.
  35. sit quietly. luxuriate in the pleasure of doing nothing at all.
  36. take a drive. shift your mind into neutral and enjoy the view.
  37. rent a movie. escape your troubles for a while.
  38. go on a picnic. look at the sky and feel the breeze on your face.
  39. walk barefoot in the grass. it just feels good.
  40. enjoy a sunset and /or sunrise.
